Experience it
Paragraphs:

This past October we had the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience with the company of Outdoor Trainers. We visited gorgeous Kalymnos for a week dedicated to climbing, at a camp organized by the best gang. Seven days devoted to nature, the rocks and the unique landscape that combines mountain and sea. A landscape that has given Kalymnos the first position for the best climbing destination in Europe and one of the best in the world.

We travelled there by boat, taking the night boat trip that departs at 18:00 usually from Pireas and we arrived at the island after 14 hours at sea.

*We suggest you book a cabin if you want to relax and be fresh for the next day or at least be equipped with a sleeping pad, a sleeping bag and a pillow.

Kalymnos is located southwest in the Aegean between Kos and Rhodes. Known for its sponge divers but also for its large fishing fleet. An island with life all year round, chilled tourism and quite a few residents even in the winter time. You will be surprised by the beauty of the harbor with the exceptional mansions of Pothia and you will be blown away by the tastes of the fresh seafood and the exceptional food in general. Travelers from all over the world visit the island all year round for climbing.

A long time ago and especially the older generations would lament about the large area of rock that covered the island which as a result did not allow them to take advantage of the land. In 1987 a French climber visited Kalymnos and was impressed with the landscape. He was the first to set out a route and since then the island has acquired international fame because of this, becoming one of the top 3 destinations for climbing.

The camp we participated in lasted for five days. Two days were spent on the rocks, one day was spent for relaxation (on the rocks), two days were spent practicing on the rocks. The fields you can find in Kalymnos are many and cover all levels of climbers to the fullest. What a beautiful feeling it is to be with nature, amongst these imposing volumes, gazing at the sea and then a light breeze hits you while you’re battling with your psychology and power management, fears etc. After 5 days though, you are filled with so much courage and peace. That’s the magical part about climbing, it makes you calmer, stronger.

The Outdoor Trainers team with leader coach Christian had made sure that every participant enjoyed the camp the same, no matter the level of experience. Every night he would find us to discuss the difficulties we encountered, our experience and what it was like to be on the rock. It was some people’s first time, others had unresolved matters, projects from previous visits. Of course, the wonderful thing about Kalymnos is that it combines mountain and sea perfectly. The climber’s mountain. High routes, good quality rock and an amazing scenery.

Find the opportunity and go there or join us next time, don’t miss it, it’s a unique experience. Experience it!

*Accommodation

As far as the stay is concerned, we chose to stay in Arginonta Bay. The scenery in this particular bay is magical. The rocks are brightly lit on dawn giving a unique beauty landscape and are also close to most landscapes and within walking distance of good dining options. You will find several options in rented rooms, and new homes with many amenities and a unique view of the beautiful bay.
