How is life in a village in Catalonia?
You will find the answer within these 3 words: silence, colors, perfumes.
Nowadays if you are not old enough, living away from the city seems impossible. Although most people when you ask them how they imagine their lives in the future, they all describe they would like to live somewhere quiet, away from the city and close to nature. But why this seems like a distant dream?
I dared to do it and I can assure you that is definitely worth the try. I have always had a love for villages, they are full of traditions and authenticity, away from the tourist chaos of a city. About 9 months ago I made the decision to leave Greece and move to Spain. This decision led me to the beautiful Barcelona, full of art, liveliness and warmth. But I chose to have my base in a village just outside of Barcelona, about 35km away. I wanted to wake up and sleep in a quieter place, having the choice to go to the center anytime I want. Let´s travel together through my lovely Catalonian Village and find out the three words that characterize life here, silence, colors, perfumes.
As can you understand a village has a lot fewer inhabitants, and this means that there are some ´golden hours´ as I would like to call them. A golden hour is when in Spain is the hour of siesta, when people go at home to eat and take a nap, every store as well is closed by this hour. These times are the ones that you can enjoy a whopping, without a car, without people, only you and the sounds of nature. Nowadays this is a blessing, the mind cannot relax itself, needs a little help, and for me, this silent walk is just the help I need.
*This magical hour is from 2 pm to 5 pm.
One of the basic thing that I did not like in many cities in Greece is the gray color on the buildings. Here the gray is absent and instead we can find bourgeois, yellow, blue and the green, as well as a great number of patterns.
Perfumes and flavours.
Since we are talking about a village in Catalonia, we cannot skip Jamon Iberico, Churros, the good wine and all those gastronomic delights you are able to find in a traditional village. Stop dreaming of the life you want to live in the future and start taking slow steps to create the life you look forward to waking up every day too.
